Nectar and Oxfam

Oxfam’s exclusive partnership with Nectar allows supporters who sign up to Gift Aid in an Oxfam shop (the ‘Tag Your Bag’ scheme) to collect 100 points for signing up and then 2 points per £1 when donated items sell.

How it works

Once a supporter has signed up to the scheme and confirmed they are a UK taxpayer they’ll receive a welcome pack with personalised tags that allow Oxfam to claim Gift Aid and track their donations.

Then it’s just a case of having a clear out and attaching the tags to the bag/s of items they are happy to give away before popping into an Oxfam store to drop them off.

Nectar points are added within 28 days of any donated item being sold. 2 points per £1 raised are awarded; for example, if a piece of clothing sells for £12 the supporter would get 24 Nectar points. If donated items don’t sell the supporter won’t receive any Nectar points, but if the items are books or clothing they will be recycled or reused in some way to help Oxfam’s mission to fight poverty.

Where the money goes

The money donations raise along with Gift Aid will help Oxfam to end poverty by taking on the big issues that keep people poor – like inequality, hunger and climate change.

Supporters can choose to donate the Nectar points they make back to Oxfam via nectar.com where they can spend points on a range of Oxfam Unwrapped gifts like training a teacher or providing safe drinking water.

What has the Nectar partnership achieved?

Supporters who have linked their Nectar card are more likely to be donating again the following year and are more engaged, so the scheme has boosted retention rates for Oxfam. The incremental income raised in the first two years is enough to fund Oxfam’s entire programme in Cambodia in 2014 (this is just an example – money raised through shop donations is spent on projects all around the world).
