How prevalent is Gift Aid fraud? Two prosecutions last year
A parliamentary question on Gift Aid fraud has provided some useful feedback on the issues HMRC is facing.
- Peter Dowd (Labour): “To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, how many people were prosecuted by HMRC for fraudulently claiming gift aid payments in 2018”.
- Mel Stride (Financial Secretary to the Treasury): “During 2017/18 there were two Prosecutions against Gift Aid fraud, which resulted in two successful Convictions. At the end of the year, there were 22 ongoing investigations into Gift Aid Fraud”.
