For over 40 years, CTG has provided a trusted forum for charities to understand and address the tax issues affecting the sector.

Our membership brings together organisations and experts who share insight, strengthen collective knowledge, and help shape our work. CTG is widely recognised as the Voice of Charities on Tax, offering clear information and well‑regarded events that support informed decision‑making. Over this time, we have delivered meaningful change, securing significant improvements to the tax framework for charities. This includes negotiating around £300 million in VAT concessions each year and protecting a further £250 million in reliefs, influencing the Government’s Review of Charity Taxation (1997–2000) with more than half of our proposals adopted, and securing the Government’s commitment to maintain all charity zero‑rates in 2005.

Today, we continue to champion the interests of charities, provide expert guidance, and bring the sector together to influence tax policy. Visit our Governance and Accounts page to read about our financial performance and governance arrangements.

Whether you’re looking to stay informed about the latest developments in charity tax or want to join a community working to shape the future of the sector, explore the options below to connect with CTG and learn more about our work.

To date, our work has helped save good causes more than £10 billion in tax.

Although charities benefit from incentives such as Gift Aid, they still face substantial tax costs. The sector receives over £1 billion annually from Gift Aid, yet incurs more than £1.5 billion in irrecoverable VAT. CTG works to highlight these pressures and advocate for fairer, more effective tax policy.

We continue to provide practical, up‑to‑date information to help charities navigate tax challenges and reduce their tax burden. Through our events, briefings, and collaborative approach, CTG remains a central point of expertise and engagement for the sector.
