Election update: Charity Ministers

Following yesterday’s general election and the confirmation of a hung parliament, it still remains to be seen how the Government will be formulated, although it seems likely that the Conservatives will try to run a minority Government.

Jane Ellison, who, as Financial Secretary to the Treasury, had ministerial responsibility for charity taxation, has lost her seat. Her successor will become the 8th minister responsible for charity taxation since the 2010 election. Rob Wilson, the Minister for Civil Society has also lost his seat.

CTG will circulate an update on their replacements once the new Government has been formed and this information is known. The Queen’s Speech (which outlines the legislative agenda for the Government) is expected to take place on 19 June 2017.

Full results from the election can be found here. A useful guide from the Hansard Society on the implications of a minority Government can be read here.
