European Union: Hearing of Paolo Gentiloni, Commissioner-designate for Economy (Tax)

The European Union’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs approved the nomination of Paolo Gentiloni as Commissioner for Economy (Tax).

Replying to a question from MEP Luděk Niedermayer (Vice-Chair of the ECON Committee/EPP), Mr Gentiloni said that he will follow up on the Commission’s proposal on VAT rates, but that it will not be his immediate priority. The Commission’s key priorities will be Energy/Carbon Tax (part of the European Green Deal), digital taxation and the customs union.
