Budget 2020 to be published on 11 March

The Chancellor has confirmed that the next Budget will be held on Wednesday 11 March 2020.

The launch of the Budget process means that individuals, interest groups and representative bodies can now submit a Budget representation to HM Treasury to comment on government policy and/or suggest new policy for inclusion in the Budget.

In order to inform policy development for the Budget, representations should contain policy suggestions for the upcoming fiscal event and explain the policy rationale, costs, benefits and deliverability of proposals. It should also be evidence based, providing clear arguments on how it contributes to the aims of the Budget.

You may wish to consider:

  • likely effectiveness and value for money
  • revenue implications for the Exchequer
  • wider macroeconomic implications (for economic stability and growth)
  • sectoral impacts
  • distributional impacts
  • administrative and compliance costs and issues
  • legislative and operational requirements
  • environmental impact

HM Treasury will not consider representations which are not practicable and/or that violate HM Treasury’s legal obligations, including but not limited to State aid, human rights and diversity.

The Budget 2020 representations portal is now open. HM Treasury is accepting representations until 7 February 2020, at which point the portal will be closed. Submissions can also be made via BudgetSubmissions@hmtreasury.gov.uk.
