Retail Gift Aid handbook published

Retail Gift Aid is incredibly important to the charity retail sector, raising around £45 million for good causes every year, by allowing charity shops to claim Gift Aid on the proceeds of sales made on behalf of donors who are UK taxpayers. However, the system is often confusing and can lead to Gift Aid being claimed when it shouldn’t be, or not being claimed when it could.

The Charity Retail Association (CRA), in collaboration with HMRC and international accountancy firm BDO, has produced a definitive guidance handbook on the scheme to complement the existing HMRC guidance.

The handbook is available to CRA members for free and can be downloaded here. Charities who are not CRA members may purchase a copy for £495, and non-charities may purchase a copy for £995, by emailing mail@charityretail.org.uk.
